Internal Medicine and Clinical Immunology Department (Pitié)

National Reference Center for rare systemic and auto-immune diseases

description

Field of expertise: National and international recognized expertise in the care of adult patients suffering of auto-immune/inflammatory (AIS) rare diseases. Leading member, National Reference Center for AIS, Department of Internal Medicine of the University hospital La Pitié-Salpêtrière, Paris.

Previous contributions: In charge of large cohorts of AIS i.e. Behçet diseases (> 600 patients), mixed cryoglobulinemia vasculitis (300), Gougerot-Sjögren (250), temporal arteritis (200), Takayasu arteritis (150), thromboangiitis obliterans (Buerger disease, 150) & Churg Strauss (100). Computerized database for many AIS including clinico-biological characteristics (clinical phenotyping). Biobank (frozen serum, cells) for Behçet diseases, cryoglobulinemia vasculitis & temporal arteritis.
Our immunopathological studies with the group of Pr D. Klatzmann demonstrated:
  1. the major role of regulatory T lymphocytes in the pathophysiology of HCV-mixed cryoglobulinemia vasculitis;
  2. the critical role of IL-21 in modulating Th17 and regulatory T cells in Behçet disease;
  3. the role of IL-25 as a cytokine linking eosinophils and adaptative immunity in Churg Strauss syndrome;
  4. mechanisms linking HCV infection, autoreactivity and lymphoproliferations. Searching for new biomarkers for diagnosis & prognosis of patients presenting with systemic vasculitis; involved in a large European collaborative study (Innovative Medicine Initiative SafeT).
